Greetings, I would like to share some of my work from when I first started back to school. It is the thesis for a paper I did in October of 2023 on the book “Midnight Robber” by Nalo Hopkinson.
Tan Tan the Robber Queen was a legend in her own right. From the many adventures she took and the adversity she faced yet still managed to live life and have tales talked about her is telling of her ingenuity and willingness to prevail despite the life she was dealt speaks of who she was destined to be from the beginning. Even though Tan Tan in the end made it through, Nalo Hopkinson’s novel Midnight Robber’s depiction of colonialism, revenge, sexual abuse, and freedom has parallels that relate back to slavery. Through the use of bravery and aggressiveness Tan Tan defended her choice long ago when she found herself living in the bush. Let us further examine her coming of age or journey to become the Robber Queen by talking about the trials and tribulations she endured, the lessons that she learned from each journey, and how she found a way to push through when she wanted to give up many times.
